Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Eclipse Ditto up to 2.5.x/3.9.6. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the component Things service. The manipulation of the argument definition with an unknown input leads to a redirect vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-601. A web application accepts a user-controlled input that specifies a link to an external site, and uses that link in a Redirect. This simplifies phishing attacks. Impacted is integrity. CVE summarizes:
In Eclipse Ditto versions 3.0.0 to 3.9.6, the Things service fetches WoT (Web of Things) ThingModels over HTTP from URLs supplied by API users in the definition field of a Thing or Feature, without validating the target host, and follows HTTP redirects without re-validating the redirect target and without a hop limit. An authenticated user who is permitted to create a Thing, or who holds WRITE permission on an existing Thing, can thereby cause the Things service to issue arbitrary HTTP GET requests from inside the deployment's network — including to cloud instance-metadata endpoints and other internal services — and can use the differing error responses returned to the caller to enumerate internal services. Versions 2.4.0 to 2.5.x contain the same code, but are only affected where the operator explicitly enabled the WoT integration feature toggle, which is disabled by default in those versions.
The advisory is available at gitlab.eclipse.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-84175 since 09/01/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/02/2026). This vulnerability is assigned to T1204.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
