Details
A vulnerability classified as very critical was found in vbpf Prevail up to 0.2.3. This vulnerability affects the function EbpfTransformer::add of the component eBPF Verifier. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
PREVAIL is a Polynomial-Runtime EBPF Verifier using an Abstract Interpretation Layer. Prior to version 0.2.4, in the Prevail eBPF verifier, EbpfTransformer::add() silently skips offset-variable updates when the destination register carries a non-singleton typeset (two or more simultaneously possible pointer types). Subsequent bounds checks use the stale offset and accept out-of-bounds memory accesses, so a crafted BPF program passes verification even though it would corrupt memory at runtime. This issue has been patched in version 0.2.4.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-53670 since 06/09/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/02/2026).
Upgrading to version 0.2.4 eliminates this vulnerability.
