Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.44/7.1.8. This affects an unknown part of the component ovpn. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ovpn: ensure socket is owned by ovpn before deref sk_user_data Some subsystems, like BPF SOCKMAP, set sk_user_data without actually setting the encap_type. For this reason, we must make sure that the type is the one ovpn expects before dereferencing sk_user_data. Failing to do so may lead to out-of-bounds reads.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-80735 since 08/26/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/07/2026).
