Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.1.9. It has been classified as problematic. Affected is the function kfd_parse_subtype of the file drm/amdkfd of the component CRAT parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdkfd: Add bounds check for CRAT subtype length The CRAT parser validates that the subtype header fits within the image, but does not verify that the advertised subtype length fits. A malformed CRAT table with an oversized length field causes out-of-bounds reads when kfd_parse_subtype() casts the header to specific subtype structures. Add validation that sub_type_hdr + length does not exceed the image boundary before parsing the subtype contents. (cherry picked from commit 48e1d1e6e8798aef0312e68d8e586021b5b3cf4d)
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-80747 since 08/26/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 7.1.10 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch ca91e0cc8087568e4b791648a7c01e804f48cb73/6e7566ba4739dd573c331adde1c96690f7a567bd is able to eliminate this problem.
