Linux Kernel up to 7.2.0 hci_event hci_cc_le_set_cig_params out-of-bounds

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as very critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.0. This vulnerability affects the function hci_cc_le_set_cig_params of the component hci_event. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: hci_event: validate LE Set CIG Parameters response The Command Complete dispatch validates only the fixed part of the LE Set CIG Parameters response. After that part is pulled from the skb, hci_cc_le_set_cig_params() trusts num_handles and reads each entry in the trailing handle array. Matching num_handles against the command's num_cis does not guarantee that the response contains the advertised handles. A truncated response from a malfunctioning controller can therefore make the handler read beyond the skb data. Validate that the remaining skb data contains all advertised handles. Include this in the existing response validation so malformed responses also follow the established CIG failure handling.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-80763 since 08/26/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/04/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.1.187, 6.6.154, 6.12.106, 6.18.47, 7.1.11, 7.2.1 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 9e05783d0bb96a7b853cc058a7c7de2dc4a62154/26741d178f31932c9018b36b7953e6dc391436a4/a34df5c4a439cfc04565fa5be608ed1e53134f1f/e3f82e8f2a5915f533b57a065e9a045aa2ee03bc/d83ecb7b96105d932dabaa56ccd7418c25fb7cbb/6fc540e835dddb518cef3ff522b780f701cd03df/0acd4eeb4b225b9bebbf9ef96cc10cdd79b94899 is able to eliminate this problem.
