CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as very critical has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.2. Affected by this vulnerability is the function ipv6_rearrange_rthdr of the component xfrm. The manipulation leads to out-of-bounds. This vulnerability is documented as CVE-2026-80844. The attack can be initiated remotely. There is not any exploit available.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.2. This issue affects the function ipv6_rearrange_rthdr of the component xfrm. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-125. The product reads data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: xfrm: ah6: validate routing header segments_left AH6 rearranges routing-header addresses before computing or verifying the ICV. ipv6_rearrange_rthdr() assumes that segments_left is not larger than the number of addresses described by the routing header's hdrlen field. That assumption does not hold for raw IPv6 HDRINCL packets. A packet with hdrlen equal to 2 describes one address, but can carry an arbitrary segments_left value. With segments_left equal to 255, the function moves its address pointer 4,064 bytes backwards and passes a 4,064-byte length to memmove(), resulting in an out-of-bounds access. Validate the invariant locally before modifying the routing header or performing any address-pointer arithmetic, and propagate malformed-header errors to the existing AH6 input and output error paths.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-80844 since 08/26/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/04/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.10.269, 5.15.220, 6.1.187, 6.6.156, 6.12.108, 6.18.49, 7.1.13, 7.2.3 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 2dc650956e4e163b879b3fb1027f9557abc5c985/48b0e36cf54358276ee7aa897034c973097d2bc9/1b7e066eabcc7d6d8f476c34739b45932f2f4c31/f00df8500e5a36ba70d336fd34bd2152ea074e5f/1516e31ac458a738be485620579d8f7fb2700fcb/6733ae71268a27d598cfb3f3339a3c950b9b656d/0bf11081ad3753938a2b48723ce6298dbac743a1/46640c814f25f096b0b0045ca50e1b7030cd8a30/7bad4bda74dc4713f398d3b7624ff05478e3a568 is able to eliminate this problem.
