Details
A vulnerability was found in PassMark PerformanceTest, BurnInTest and OSForensics (version unknown). It has been classified as very critical. This affects an unknown function of the file DirectIo64.sys of the component Ioctl. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
PassMark PerformanceTest before 11.1 build 1012, BurnInTest before 11.1 build 1000, and OSForensics before 11.1 build 1016 contain a privilege escalation and denial-of-service vulnerability in DirectIo64.sys that allows local attackers to read arbitrary Model-Specific Registers or write zero to any MSR through exposed IOCTLs with insufficient blocklist enforcement. Attackers can exploit the unrestricted write IOCTL to zero out the system call handler MSR, causing an immediate unrecoverable kernel crash on the next system call, or read security-sensitive MSRs used to locate kernel data structures.
It is possible to read the advisory at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-80115 since 08/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/04/2026). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
