A vulnerability was found in Genivia Ugrep up to 7.5.x. It has been rated as problematic. This issue affects an unknown function of the component LZW Decompressor. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). ugrep before 7.6.0 contains a heap buffer over-read vulnerability in the LZW decompressor when processing crafted .Z archive files. Attackers can supply malformed .Z files that cause the decompressor to read one byte past the allocated heap buffer, potentially crashing the process.
