A vulnerability was found in Apple Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Operating System). It has been classified as critical. Affected is an unknown function of the component smbfs. Stack-based buffer overflow in SMB in Apple Mac OS X 10.4.11 allows local users to execute arbitrary code via (1) a long workgroup (-W) option to mount_smbfs or (2) an unspecified manipulation of the command line to smbutil.

The bug was discovered 12/17/2007. The weakness was published 12/19/2007 by iDefense Labs with iDEFENSE Labs (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2007-3876 since 07/18/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Subreption LLC. in ANSI C and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
