Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in SafeNet Sentinel Protection Server up to 7.4. This affects an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in SafeNet Sentinel Protection Server 7.0.0 through 7.4.0 and possibly earlier versions, and Sentinel Keys Server 1.0.3 and possibly earlier versions, allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the query string.
The weakness was published 12/20/2007 with Core (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2007-6483 since 12/20/2007. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Matt Schmidt and been published 7 years after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 10297 (Web Server Directory Traversal Arbitrary File Access), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Web Servers. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122221 (SafeNet Sentinel Protection Server/Key Server Directory Traversal Vulnerability).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (38636), Exploit-DB (33428), Tenable (10297), SecurityFocus (BID 26583†) and OSVDB (42402†). Similar entries are available at VDB-16131, VDB-45270, VDB-53526 and VDB-55327. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
