CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.108/6.18.49/7.2.3. Affected by this issue is the function nfsd4_decode_create of the component nfsd. The manipulation of the argument cr_datalen with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nfsd: validate symlink target length in NFSv4 CREATE nfsd4_decode_create() accepts an unbounded cr_datalen from the wire for NF4LNK symlink targets, allowing a client to force a kmalloc of up to the maximum RPC payload size (several MiB) per COMPOUND op that persists until compound teardown. The VFS rejects oversized targets with ENAMETOOLONG, but the allocation has already occurred. Reject cr_datalen == 0 early with nfserr_inval and cr_datalen greater than NFS4_MAXPATHLEN (PATH_MAX) with nfserr_nametoolong to bound the allocation.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-89699 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 09/11/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.109, 6.18.50, 7.2.4 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch b24843ea3de1676b29902457b38507c95a80649b/895a485cd3758031ef9993c0d53cf19ce8fb4ccc/45ec115cbfecb4b3cfab7fca6f73d1b60696a25a/041f57056e5fb9c80adc088269322d2c61074406 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
