Upgrading the affected component is recommended.
Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.50/7.2.3. This vulnerability affects the function fuse_uring_copy_to_ring of the file fs/fuse/dev_uring.c of the component FUSE. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fuse: copy request headers via a stack buffer for io-uring The fuse-io-uring transport copies req->in.h out to the ring in fuse_uring_copy_to_ring() and req->out.h back in fuse_uring_commit(). Both headers live inside the fuse_request slab object, whose cache (fuse_req_cachep) is created without a usercopy whitelist, so copying them directly to/from userspace trips CONFIG_HARDENED_USERCOPY and panics: usercopy: Kernel memory exposure attempt detected from SLUB object 'fuse_request' (offset 56, size 40)! kernel BUG at mm/usercopy.c:102! The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-80946 since 08/26/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 09/11/2026).
Upgrading to version 6.18.51, 7.2.4 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 194d0fb0ea4720535ff3168c9d04c7632cec7071/a47a416ff68d706dc3327ab583f86b9ee757358b/fd10f40af314f07b6d6e028b1ca25c8b49903aab is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
