CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.108/6.18.49/7.2.3. This vulnerability affects the function ecryptfs_send_message_locked of the component ecryptfs. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a allocation of resources vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-770. The product allocates a reusable resource or group of resources on behalf of an actor without imposing any restrictions on the size or number of resources that can be allocated, in violation of the intended security policy for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ecryptfs: release message context on send failure ecryptfs_send_message_locked() moves a message context from the free list to the allocated list before sending the request to the userspace daemon. If ecryptfs_send_miscdev() fails, the context is left on the allocated list and cannot be reused. Move it back to the free list on failure and clear the caller's pointer.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-89605 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/12/2026). This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

Upgrading to version 6.12.109, 6.18.50, 7.2.4 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 47ce611cb13f0eefa550d5434c1afcd4217bfc3e/9319706316a8e79f374627554386d575a84b637f/654b7e79443f5ea90849f5c1cf70c0d94bd5b10e/219644a3ad5518217b2d62cad6d2c36a2308c949 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
