CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.108/6.18.49/7.2.3 and classified as very critical. Affected by this issue is the function nfs40_clean_admin_revoked of the component NFSD. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: NFSD: Prevent client use-after-free during NFSv4.0 revoked-state cleanup nfs40_clean_admin_revoked() takes a stateid reference under clp->cl_lock, drops nn->client_lock, and calls nfsd4_drop_revoked_stid(), which dereferences the stateid's client through s->sc_client->cl_lock. The stateid reference does not pin the client, so a teardown racing the dropped lock can free the client while nfsd4_drop_revoked_stid() is still using it. This cleanup runs from the laundromat, so a periodic sweep can race force_expire_client() driven by a write to the clients/<id>/ctl file. Skip a client that is already expiring and otherwise pin it with cl_rpc_users under client_lock before dropping the lock, matching nfsd4_revoke_states().

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-89658 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/12/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.109, 6.18.50, 7.2.4 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 0ae0d2b5c5a1b39c0b3c15d96b32a5b0c583d519/b413ec5b23e3445dc9c4f273116078e2d4747626/81cf7f1413862f87b078920c838460a6a88aa030/7b4f8a1586c42d3afc3c0ac779af2db7ab1a5c55 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
