A vulnerability was found in Cutephp CuteNews 2.6 (Content Management System). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the file file.php. The manipulation of the argument file with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in file.php in CuteNews 2.6 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the file parameter, as demonstrated by reading the admin username and password hash in data/users.db.php.
