Details
A vulnerability was found in Http4s up to 0.23.34/1.0.0-M46. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function FrameTranscoder.bodyLength of the component WebSocket FrameTranscoder. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a resource consumption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-400. The product does not properly control the allocation and maintenance of a limited resource, thereby enabling an actor to influence the amount of resources consumed, eventually leading to the exhaustion of available resources. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
Http4s is a Scala interface for HTTP services. Prior to 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47, WebSocket FrameTranscoder.bodyLength rejects extended payload lengths above Integer.MAX_VALUE but permits negative 64-bit lengths. A remote client that completes a WebSocket handshake through an Ember server can send such a frame, causing the decoder to return an empty frame without advancing its input. The decode loop then runs indefinitely, pins a worker at full CPU, and grows an ArrayBuffer without bound, resulting in denial of service. This issue is fixed in versions 0.23.35 and 1.0.0-M47.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-69210 since 08/03/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 0.23.35 or 1.0.0-M47 eliminates this vulnerability.
