Linux Kernel up to 6.18.50/7.2.4/7.3-rc1 Sysfb drm/sysfb integer overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.50/7.2.4/7.3-rc1. It has been declared as very critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file drm/sysfb of the component Sysfb. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/sysfb: ofdrm: Fix integer overflow in fb_size calculation The framebuffer size calculation `fb_size = linebytes * height` can overflow when both values are large (e.g., 46341 * 46341 > INT_MAX). Since linebytes and height are both int types, the multiplication is performed as int * int, which results in undefined behavior on overflow. Use check_mul_overflow() to detect and prevent this overflow, consistent with the approach used in simpledrm.c and corebootdrm.c.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-89806 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 09/16/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.18.51, 7.2.5 or 7.3-rc2 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch ded6ad826fe0fd059333d3a3b3e1742c8e45ff41/d9daf9a6e7a6f82ef338a09386eefc6807100d3f/c6f48e59ece0123f6a11527ad4d89b21c2d65b87 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
