Linux Kernel up to 6.12.109/6.18.50/7.2.4 panthor drm/panthor panthor_init_cs_iface/panthor_init_csg_iface memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as very critical has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.109/6.18.50/7.2.4. This impacts the function panthor_init_cs_iface/panthor_init_csg_iface of the file drm/panthor of the component panthor. Performing a manipulation results in memory corruption. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-89825. Remote exploitation of the attack is possible. No exploit is available. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.109/6.18.50/7.2.4. It has been classified as very critical. This affects the function panthor_init_cs_iface/panthor_init_csg_iface of the file drm/panthor of the component panthor. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/panthor: fix firmware control interface bounds checks panthor_init_cs_iface() and panthor_init_csg_iface() validate firmware control interface offsets with 32-bit arithmetic and the size of the host wrapper structures. The offsets are derived from firmware-provided strides, so the arithmetic can wrap before the bounds check, and the host wrapper size is not the size of the firmware control interface being mapped. Use 64-bit arithmetic for the computed offsets and validate against the actual firmware control interface structure sizes with subtraction-based bounds checks. Also validate that the shared section is large enough for the global control interface before using it.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-89825 since 09/11/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/16/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.110, 6.18.51, 7.2.5 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 33ae55809aee9b4dca1d00cdee35b527f2bf8626/80c9528661c774f899281c9a72011208ff39929e/3e5c7cddc0073eef6f9bb373189b11a969f1f6f6/6a47f9fd2d970674ed9dedc52fc7ab76fd015785 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
