Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Uber Kraken up to 0.1.29. Affected is an unknown part of the component Testfs backend. The manipulation of the argument tag with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Uber Kraken through 0.1.29 fails to validate the tag parameter in the /tags/{tag} endpoint, allowing unauthenticated attackers to traverse outside the configured storage root. Attackers can use percent-encoded parent-directory segments in the tag parameter to read arbitrary files accessible to the testfs backend process.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-92791 since 09/16/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 09/16/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
