Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.6.156/6.12.109/6.18.51/7.2.5. Affected by this issue is the function snd_ice1712_probe of the component ALSA. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ALSA: ice1712: Fix the card leak at probe error with the auto-cleanup snd_ice1712_probe() performs multiple initialization steps after snd_card_new(), but directly returns on failures from later steps without releasing the ALSA card, causing resource leaks when probing fails. Use snd_devm_card_new() together with scope-based cleanup via __free(snd_card_unref), and clear the card pointer after successful registration to keep it alive.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-90119 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/17/2026). This vulnerability is assigned to T1499 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 6.6.157, 6.12.110, 6.18.52, 7.2.6 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch c5c7c7b6cfae73c46e4544a9ef08ff89231a670d/d8ac49391a1562dc784fc91e810e696284cb647e/b15782627b6562f7b6d628f4699316f26340f835/24b399f51812d727dc25d7814c4d7e0cca38201e/d736eba9c453fedce664fdf592c8b71ecff1932b is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
