Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.5. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects the function qla2x00_sysfs_read_vpd of the component qla2xxx. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: qla2xxx: Remove redundant VPD flash read in sysfs read path qla2x00_sysfs_read_vpd() called ha->isp_ops->read_optrom() a second time after releasing optrom_mutex. The repeated read is redundant and, unlike the first, runs without optrom_mutex held, exposing flash access to concurrent optrom operations. Drop the duplicate call.
The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-90285 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
