Linux Kernel up to 7.2.5 arm_mpam resctrl_arch_get_config use after free

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.5 and classified as critical. Affected is the function resctrl_arch_get_config of the component arm_mpam. This manipulation causes use after free. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-90270. It is possible to launch the attack on the local host. There is not any exploit available. The affected component should be upgraded.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.5. Affected by this vulnerability is the function resctrl_arch_get_config of the component arm_mpam. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: arm_mpam: Disable driver unbind to avoid UAF When a user unbinds an MSC and that MSC is the only MSC left for a component then the corresponding mpam_component will be freed. If the user then goes on to read the schemata file in the resctrl filesystem then the mpam_component will be accessed from resctrl_arch_get_config() leading to a use after free. As the MPAM driver is not a module the unbind sysfs interface is the only way to trigger the remove. Instead of dealing with the complexity of allowing some unused MSC to unbind just remove the unbind sysfs interface.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-90270 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/17/2026).

Upgrading to version 7.2.6 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 7d199b6a0651abad3ca6d0877dbedbe8fe6ea9e2/bb1a0f582d519c0461b0940116e2b52c5ba31459 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
