Details
A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.5. Affected is the function rio_add_net of the component rapidio. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: rapidio: clear mport->net when rio_add_net() fails rio_alloc_net() stores the newly allocated rio_net in mport->net before rio_scan_alloc_net() registers the device. If rio_add_net() fails, rio_scan_alloc_net() drops the device reference with put_device(), which releases the rio_net through the device release callback. However, mport->net is left pointing at the freed object. A later mport unregister path can then dereference the dangling mport->net pointer and may try to free the same rio_net again. Clear mport->net in the rio_add_net() failure path, matching the cleanup done for the destID table allocation failure path.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-90319 since 09/11/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/17/2026).
