Linux Kernel up to 6.12.109/6.18.51/7.2.5 mac80211 input validation

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.109/6.18.51/7.2.5. It has been rated as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the component mac80211. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the properties that are required to process the data safely and correctly. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: mac80211: disconnect on CSA to channel 0 The refactor for the CSA parsing erroneously equates channel zero and no information present, leading it to ignore a CSA on an AP that advertises a switch to that (invalid) channel. This leads to not disconnecting, which we should. For Intel devices, this can lead to a firmware crash. Fix this by using an int type for the channel number as well as the opclass, and using a (negative) value that cannot be encoded in the element to indicate it's not present.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-90344 since 09/11/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 09/17/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.110, 6.18.52, 7.2.6 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 099aadb2012d7490bc584cc5075ef11cbc33f2c3/e7bc5ab93acd1c3f54feeb9fa19ead3530168090/eef374088450bb91626e133c7172b8a0e969a522/cf57f0a674cc3e3cda1a789359cc1238b61b9d7d is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
