Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel (affected version unknown). It has been declared as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the component BPF. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: riscv, bpf: Fix kernel stack corruption in tailcall with CFI When CONFIG_CFI_CLANG is enabled, prog->bpf_func already skips the kcfi instruction during setup. Including it again in the tailcall jump offset causes it to jump over an extra 4 bytes, skipping the stack pointer adjustment, which will result in kernel stack corruption.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-92518 since 09/16/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/17/2026).
