Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.51/7.2.5. This issue affects the function recover_worker of the component msm. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/msm: Fix task_struct reference leak in recover_worker get_pid_task() increments the task reference count, but the corresponding put_task_struct() was missing in the else branch, leaking a reference on every GPU hang recovery. Patchwork: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/730662/
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-93059 since 09/17/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
