Linux Kernel up to 7.2.5 sa2ul sa_ul_probe unusual condition

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The affected component should be upgraded.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.5. This affects the function sa_ul_probe of the component sa2ul. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a unusual condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-754. The product does not check or incorrectly checks for unusual or exceptional conditions that are not expected to occur frequently during day to day operation of the product. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: crypto: sa2ul - stop probe if context pool creation fails sa_ul_probe() calls sa_init_mem() to create the DMA pool used for security context buffers, but ignores its return value. If pool creation fails, probe still continues with DMA setup, algorithm registration and child population even though later request setup depends on that pool. Stop probing when sa_init_mem() fails, and route that failure to the PM cleanup path without attempting to destroy an uncreated DMA pool.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-93158 since 09/17/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. The exploitation requires an enhanced level of successful authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/17/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.10.270, 5.15.221, 6.1.188, 6.6.157, 6.12.110, 6.18.52, 7.2.6 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 304dcd26bfc3ce6771c2bd3b7c0299dcfd5f4e06/9907426b438e4dbc8c45138bd440ad6d732d80b7/9a692a6a2b47328a36c8d80c7fbf81da16b6d6b1/04c46784ec249cac995e31f0691397b82bdaa5fd/f72c7837614a9705f8b3021828d49c9f095803ba/91ded4742fcde6ad415c4d8a20e5ea0dcdf4f73e/b68b35ed97d3e18edb9dea500d88420a95006742/d03f980a25853f6a380895119a572a3bb1194e8d is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
