Linux Kernel up to 7.2.5 powerplay drm/amdgpu/pm/powerplay vddInd/vddcInd memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 7.2.5. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file drm/amdgpu/pm/powerplay of the component powerplay. The manipulation of the argument vddInd/vddcInd with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu/pm/powerplay: bounds-check voltage index in SMU7 lookup vddInd and vddcInd fields from VBIOS-parsed tables are used to index into voltage lookup tables without a bounds check. Return -EINVAL when any index is out of range.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-93178 since 09/17/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 09/18/2026).

Upgrading to version 5.10.270, 5.15.221, 6.1.188, 6.6.157, 6.12.110, 6.18.52, 7.2.6 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch d9ef085114d1e3c2c1f869c0bdb275a7b358ce8b/6f08c001fa6e8212930d694540ae8d9d6d3fb58a/ce0d8e72836c9d3710a160ad848b0f1d096075e3/745297208d31222f916cc04da313cb737b997935/f925d317d84d401d642e537ea18ee12f67cb6983/8a3db9f593b643904c6cc6d8a3f211c84ca6cf8a/1664327ce797e09e387dc10cbbaa5b8d76558d2c/3a8a05477cda6c8293e2b629495b42981dcaba32 is able to eliminate this problem.
