Details
A vulnerability was found in InvenTree up to 1.3.x. It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function registry.restart_machine of the file src/backend/InvenTree/machine/api.py of the component Machine API. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
InvenTree is an Open Source Inventory Management System. Prior to 1.4.0, the POST /api/machine/{pk}/restart/ endpoint in src/backend/InvenTree/machine/api.py uses IsAuthenticatedOrReadScope without requiring the ADMIN role used by other machine management operations. Any authenticated user who lacks the ADMIN role, including a warehouse user with only the STOCK role, can cause MachineRestart to invoke registry.restart_machine() for any registered machine, resetting its status and interrupting active printing, scanning, or other machine operations. This issue is fixed in version 1.4.0.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-61745 since 07/10/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 1.4.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
