Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in laurent22 Joplin up to 3.7.6. This issue affects some unknown functionality of the component Share. The manipulation of the argument mime with an unknown input leads to a cross-site request forgery vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-352. The web application does not, or can not, sufficiently verify whether a well-formed, valid, consistent request was intentionally provided by the user who submitted the request. Impacted is integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Joplin is an open source note-taking and to-do application that organises notes and lists into notebooks. Prior to 3.7.7, Joplin Server's GET /shares/:id?resource_id= route serves a resource with the attacker-controlled mime value and omits Content-Disposition when the resource title is empty. A low-privileged user can publish an empty-title image/svg+xml attachment whose script executes when a victim opens the public share. By default, user content shares the Joplin Server application origin, allowing the script to access same-origin data and, when the victim is authenticated, perform actions with the victim's session, including reading administrative data and anti-CSRF tokens. Installations that configure USER_CONTENT_BASE_URL to a separate origin still execute the script, but on that separate user-content origin rather than the application origin. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.7.

The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-59814 since 07/07/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 3.7.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
