Details
A vulnerability has been found in Chartbrew up to 5.2.1 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function validateOutboundUrl of the file server/modules/safeRequest.js of the component DNS Resolution. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a dns rebinding vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-350. The product performs reverse DNS resolution on an IP address to obtain the hostname and make a security decision, but it does not properly ensure that the IP address is truly associated with the hostname. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Chartbrew is an open-source web application that can connect directly to databases and APIs and use the data to create charts. Prior to 5.2.2, Chartbrew's server/modules/safeRequest.js calls validateOutboundUrl() to resolve and validate a target hostname, but request-promise performs a separate DNS resolution for the actual connection. An authenticated user who can create or test API connections and controls the target DNS name can return a public address during validation and a private address during the request, bypassing the protections implemented by server/modules/outboundTargetPolicy.js. This DNS rebinding condition can expose internal services, localhost resources, or cloud metadata endpoints. This issue is fixed in version 5.2.2.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-61743 since 07/10/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1583.002.
Upgrading to version 5.2.2 eliminates this vulnerability.
