Lantronix SLC8000/EMG8500/EMG7500/SLB882/SLCx-03/SLCx-02 Web Management Portal Upload Endpoint path traversal

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Lantronix SLC8000, EMG8500, EMG7500, SLB882, SLCx-03 and SLCx-02 and classified as very critical. Affected by this vulnerability is some unknown functionality of the component Web Management Portal Upload Endpoint. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Lantronix SLC8000 before firmware v9.7.0.5, EMG8500/EMG7500 before firmware v9.7.0.1, and all firmware versions of SLB882/SLCx-03/SLCx-02 contain a path traversal vulnerability in the web management portal upload endpoint that allows authenticated attackers to write arbitrary data to any location on the device's filesystem, leading to remote code execution. The upload filename validation strips backslash characters but does not subsequently check for forward slashes when a backslash is detected; by supplying a filename containing both characters an attacker writes outside the intended upload directory to any writable path. Attackers can use this vulnerability to achieve complete loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability on the affected device and potentially impact downstream serial-connected devices.

It is possible to read the advisory at revrb.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-80156 since 08/25/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/22/2026). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
