Lantronix SLC8000/EMG8500/EMG7500/SLB882/SLCx-03/SLCx-02 Mfc Eeprom Write Command system command injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Lantronix SLC8000, EMG8500, EMG7500, SLB882, SLCx-03 and SLCx-02. It has been classified as very critical. This affects the function system of the component Mfc Eeprom Write Command. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a command injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-77. The product constructs all or part of a command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Lantronix SLC8000 before firmware v9.7.0.2, EMG8500/EMG7500 before firmware v9.7.0.1, and all firmware versions of SLB882/SLCx-03/SLCx-02 contain a command injection vulnerability that allows authenticated attackers to execute arbitrary shell commands as root by exploiting an undocumented mfc eeprom write command that passes unsanitized user input to a system() call. Attackers can authenticate as any user to the terminal or CLI interface and inject malicious commands through the unsanitized parameter to achieve complete loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability on the affected device and potentially impact downstream serial-attached devices.

The advisory is shared at revrb.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-80144 since 08/25/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/22/2026). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1202 for this issue.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
