A vulnerability was found in sooperset mcp-atlassian up to 0.21.x. It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is the function upload_attachment of the file src/mcp_atlassian/confluence/attachments.py of the component Attachments. The manipulation of the argument file_path with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. MCP Atlassian is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Atlassian products (Confluence and Jira). Prior to 0.22.0, upload_attachment in src/mcp_atlassian/confluence/attachments.py accepts a caller-controlled file_path and opens the selected server-local file without restricting it to the workspace. A permitted Confluence MCP caller can upload the file as an attachment and disclose data readable by the server process. This issue is fixed in version 0.22.0.
