Details
A vulnerability was found in sooperset Mcp Atlassian up to 0.21.x. It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function upload_attachment of the component Upload. The manipulation of the argument file_path with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
MCP Atlassian is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Atlassian products (Confluence and Jira). Prior to 0.22.0, HTTP-exposed Jira and Confluence upload tools pass a caller-provided file_path to local file operations without restricting it to the workspace. A remote MCP caller with tool access can cause the server to read sensitive local files and upload them as Atlassian attachments. The advisory traces the vulnerable input and processing flow through streamable-http, upload_attachment, and file_path, which identify the affected entry points, controls, and code paths. This issue is fixed in version 0.22.0.
The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-77257 since 08/20/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 0.22.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
