Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in sooperset mcp-atlassian up to 0.21.x. Affected by this issue is the function upload_attachment of the component Attachment. The manipulation of the argument file_path with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
MCP Atlassian is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Atlassian products (Confluence and Jira). Prior to 0.22.0, upload_attachment accepts absolute paths and traversal sequences without constraining the resolved path to the server workspace. An MCP caller with attachment access can read a chosen server-local file and exfiltrate it through Jira or Confluence. The advisory traces the vulnerable input and processing flow through upload_attachment, file_path, and path traversal, which identify the affected entry points, controls, and code paths. This issue is fixed in version 0.22.0.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-77266 since 08/20/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1006 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
Upgrading to version 0.22.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
