Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (affected version not known). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component automation-controller. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a missing encryption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-311. The product does not encrypt sensitive or critical information before storage or transmission. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
A flaw was found in Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform's automation- controller. Survey questions of type password are write-only and stored encrypted, displayed only as a placeholder on read. When a schedule or workflow job template node is revalidated against a tightened survey specification, the controller decrypts the stored password and includes its plaintext value in the minimum/maximum length validation error message returned in the HTTP response. A user with the delegated JobTemplate Admin role can tighten the survey length constraint and trigger revalidation of a schedule or node created by another, higher-privileged user, thereby recovering that user's stored password in plaintext.
The advisory is shared for download at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-84499 since 09/01/2026. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are needed for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 09/23/2026). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
