AirPort Utility before 5.5.1 for Apple AirPort Base Station does not properly distribute MAC address ACLs to network extenders, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions via an 802.11 authentication frame.

The weakness was disclosed 04/01/2010 by Guido Lamberty with Apple as HT3958 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2009-2822 since 08/17/2009. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 117487 (AirPort Base Station Update 2010-001 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2010-03-31-1)).
