Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform Logging Configuration code injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability marked as very critical has been reported in Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. This vulnerability affects unknown code of the component Logging Configuration. Performing a manipulation of the argument LOG_AGGREGATOR_HOST/LOG_AGGREGATOR_MAX_DISK_USAGE_PATH/LOG_AGGREGATOR_RSYSLOGD_ERROR_LOG_FILE results in code injection. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-85475. The attack may be initiated remotely. There is no available exploit.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (the affected version is unknown). This affects an unknown code of the component Logging Configuration. The manipulation of the argument LOG_AGGREGATOR_HOST/LOG_AGGREGATOR_MAX_DISK_USAGE_PATH/LOG_AGGREGATOR_RSYSLOGD_ERROR_LOG_FILE with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

A flaw was found in the Ansible Automation Platform automation controller. The external logging (rsyslog) configuration is generated by interpolating user-controlled settings — LOG_AGGREGATOR_HOST, LOG_AGGREGATOR_MAX_DISK_USAGE_PATH and LOG_AGGREGATOR_RSYSLOGD_ERROR_LOG_FILE — into an rsyslog RainerScript config file without neutralizing RainerScript syntax. A privileged (superuser) user can inject rsyslog directives, including an omprog action, causing arbitrary command execution inside the control-plane rsyslog component. This allows disclosure of the controller SECRET_KEY and database credentials, decryption of all stored credentials, and full compromise of the control plane.

It is possible to read the advisory at access.redhat.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-85475 since 09/03/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/23/2026). The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1059 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
