Linux Kernel up to 6.18.49/7.2.3 phy devm_add_action_or_reset denial of service

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.49/7.2.3 and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function devm_add_action_or_reset of the component phy. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: phy: fsl-imx8mq-usb: fix typec switch leak on probe error path If probe fails after imx95_usb_phy_get_tca() succeeds, the typec switch leaks because the only cleanup path was in .remove(), which never runs on probe failure. Use devm_add_action_or_reset() so the switch is cleaned up on both probe failure and driver removal. The imx95_usb_phy_put_tca() is no longer needed, it will be removed in .remove() too.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-93225 since 09/17/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 6.18.50, 7.2.4 or 7.3-rc1 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch f1b7b2c7ffa9711d1298f52790b377fe02efc1db/84646f5b945a370f6999eed59a334387b0abc282/87a1805b1c346b092c34f96f3806f207792910e1 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
