Details
A vulnerability was found in Applications 1.16.4 and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is the function strip_ini_cache of the file load_ini_buffer.h of the component load_ini_buffer.h utility. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
libconfini 1.16.4 contains a heap out-of-bounds write condition involving the bundled load_ini_buffer.h utility and strip_ini_cache(). The bundled utility allocates exactly ini_length bytes, while strip_ini_cache() unconditionally writes a NUL terminator at ini_source[ini_length], requiring an additional writable byte. Applications using the bundled allocation pattern can trigger deterministic heap memory corruption when processing any non-empty INI input, resulting in denial of service.
The advisory is available at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-88370 since 09/10/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/24/2026).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
