Linux Kernel up to 6.18.52 amdkfd kfd_smi_ev_enabled information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.52. This affects the function kfd_smi_ev_enabled of the component amdkfd. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdkfd: fix SMI event cross-process information leak kfd_smi_ev_enabled() skips the suser privilege check when pid=0. PROCESS_START, PROCESS_END, and VMFAULT events are emitted with pid=0 while carrying another process's PID and command name, so any /dev/kfd user in the render group can monitor all GPU workloads. Pass the target process PID into kfd_smi_event_add() for these events so the existing per-client filter restricts delivery to the owning process or CAP_SYS_ADMIN subscribers.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-97422 since 09/24/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. Attacking locally is a requirement. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

Upgrading to version 6.18.53 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 5bb2dfa65d8da83e87b2a31c270bc567df69a5ca/92a8dba246d371fe268280e5fd74b0955688e6df is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
