Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52 spi_core spi_controller_suspend state issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The manipulation leads to state issue. This vulnerability is documented as CVE-2026-93814. The attack needs to be performed locally. There is not any exploit available. It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52 and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function spi_controller_suspend of the component spi_core. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a state issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-371. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: spi: core: Abort active target transfer on controller suspend When an SPI controller operating in target mode has a transfer in progress at the time of system suspend, the suspend path proceeds without aborting the ongoing transfer. This can leave the hardware in an inconsistent state, potentially causing the system to hang or fail to resume cleanly. Fix this by invoking the controller's target_abort callback from spi_controller_suspend() when the controller is in target mode and the callback is registered. This ensures any active target transfer is cleanly terminated before the controller is suspended.

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2026-93814 since 09/18/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.

Upgrading to version 6.12.111 or 6.18.53 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch b81ac605763c319ca9928a237818ab4e8ab7bb59/f6a0cafa265c8a4aed585d873747e3b88b146eed/c1bab046d4786c5b17aab7c5225bf0d4a2a2d19b is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
