Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52 dpaa2-switch remove use after free

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52. It has been classified as very critical. Affected is the function remove of the component dpaa2-switch. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a use after free vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-416. Referencing memory after it has been freed can cause a program to crash, use unexpected values, or execute code. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: dpaa2-switch: fix handling of NAPI on the remove path All the NAPI instances for a DPSW device are attached to the first switch port's net_device but shared by all ports. The NAPI instances get disabled only once the last port goes down. This causes an issue on the .remove() path where each port is unregistered and freed one at a time, causing the NAPI instances to be deleted even though they are not disabled. In order to avoid this, split up the unregister_netdev() calls from the free_netdev() so that we make sure all ports go down before we attempt a deletion of NAPI instances. Also, make the netif_napi_del() explicit as it is on the .probe() path.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2026-97434 since 09/24/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. The attack needs to be approached locally. The exploitation needs additional levels of successful authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 09/24/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.111 or 6.18.53 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 569df157eb874cb3b50554d73b89f31599397b42/6518f87771c8833e587bd9881346fa759651c2ae/e23d7c8c1d4ba435c457d7ffb2669175ec819b07 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
