Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52 sja1105 dsa_port_from_netdev memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability described as very critical has been identified in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52. This vulnerability affects the function dsa_port_from_netdev of the component sja1105. Such manipulation leads to memory corruption. This vulnerability is referenced as CVE-2026-97435. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. No exploit is available. Upgrading the affected component is recommended.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as very critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52. Affected by this issue is the function dsa_port_from_netdev of the component sja1105. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: dsa: sja1105: flower: reject cross-chip redirect dsa_port_from_netdev() may return a valid port from a different switch chip. Programming another chip's port index into the local hardware causes redirection to the wrong port, or an out-of-bounds access if the index exceeds the local chip's port count. Apply a minimal fix that adds a check to catch this case and adjusts the extack message. When cls->common.skip_sw is not set, the operation could instead redirect to the upstream port and let the software or upstream switch(es) handle the forward, but that is not addressed here.

The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-97435 since 09/24/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/24/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.12.111 or 6.18.53 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch c999cc39775381b68ed66eae57c1425452672c0f/abd7511e12b231798332afa04ed9bee9e84f9445/cfa5274a5dc2a23b957da5dc806d2ac0c7a66af0 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
