Linux Kernel amdgpu psp_copy_fw buffer overflow

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel. It has been declared as very critical. This impacts the function psp_copy_fw of the component amdgpu. Executing a manipulation can lead to buffer overflow. This vulnerability is registered as CVE-2026-97494. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. No exploit is available. It is advisable to implement a patch to correct this issue.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel (version now known). It has been declared as very critical. This vulnerability affects the function psp_copy_fw of the component amdgpu. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a buffer overflow vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-120. The product copies an input buffer to an output buffer without verifying that the size of the input buffer is less than the size of the output buffer, leading to a buffer overflow. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/amdgpu: validate and share PSP fw_pri_buf copies via psp_copy_fw Change psp_copy_fw from void to int: return -ENODEV when drm_dev_enter fails, and -EINVAL when the image size is zero or larger than the 1 MiB PSP private buffer. Replace open-coded memset/memcpy into fw_pri_buf with psp_copy_fw.

The advisory is shared for download at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2026-97494 since 09/24/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $5k-$25k (estimation calculated on 09/24/2026).
