Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Wazuh up to 4.14.6. Affected by this issue is the function _getattributes of the file src/os_xml/os_xml.c of the component XML Parser. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. A stack-based buffer overflow condition is a condition where the buffer being overwritten is allocated on the stack (i.e., is a local variable or, rarely, a parameter to a function). Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
Wazuh is an open-source security platform providing unified XDR and SIEM protection for endpoints and cloud workloads. From 3.8.0 until 4.14.7, the _getattributes() function in src/os_xml/os_xml.c recursively processes every XML attribute without a depth limit while allocating two large local buffers in each stack frame. An enrolled agent can submit a Windows EventChannel event containing an element with enough attributes to exhaust the analysisd worker-thread stack, trigger a segmentation fault, and interrupt log ingestion. The element-depth limit in _ReadElem() does not constrain the number of attributes on one element, so it does not prevent this condition. This issue is fixed in version 4.14.7.
The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2026-61811 since 07/10/2026. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
Upgrading to version 4.14.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
