CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.18.52/7.2.6/7.3-rc2. This affects the function phmac_do_one_request of the file paes_s390.c of the component s390/crypto. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a improper synchronization vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-662. The product utilizes multiple threads or processes to allow temporary access to a shared resource that can only be exclusive to one process at a time, but it does not properly synchronize these actions, which might cause simultaneous accesses of this resource by multiple threads or processes. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: s390/crypto: Fix wrong return code to engine in asynch callbacks When crypto_finalize_hash_request() or crypto_finalize_skcipher_request() explicitly completes a request, the do_one_request callback must return 0 to indicate successful handling. Returning a negative error code causes the crypto engine to assume the driver failed to take ownership and triggers a second completion via crypto_request_complete(), resulting in a double completion. This pattern occurs in paes_s390.c 4 times and once in phmac_s390.c. Fixed in phmac_do_one_request() and all four paes do_one_request callbacks (ecb, cbc, ctr, xts) by returning 0 after explicit finalization instead of propagating the error code.

It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2026-97589 since 09/24/2026. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $0-$5k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/25/2026).

Upgrading to version 6.18.53, 7.2.7 or 7.3-rc3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 972e0d9b7d1d112240ccde1f1be85bf9ffaa1720/5480291aa848e19e61175abfd457933516db70c6/ac1481320110b803ab9b79ab4d2ca11a74fc05f2 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
