CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Summaryinfo

A vulnerability identified as problematic has been detected in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52/7.2.6/7.3-rc2. This issue affects the function fq_pie_change of the file net/sched/sch_fq_pie.c of the component fq_pie. This manipulation of the argument quantum causes denial of service. This vulnerability appears as CVE-2026-98013. The attack may be initiated remotely. There is no available exploit. You should upgrade the affected component.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.12.110/6.18.52/7.2.6/7.3-rc2. Affected by this vulnerability is the function fq_pie_change of the file net/sched/sch_fq_pie.c of the component fq_pie. The manipulation of the argument quantum with an unknown input leads to a denial of service vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-404. The product does not release or incorrectly releases a resource before it is made available for re-use. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net/sched: fq_pie: clamp quantum in change path fq_pie_change() accepts any quantum value from userspace, including 1. With a crafted size table qdisc_pkt_len reaches ~2 GiB, so quantum=1 makes the deficit-refill loop spin ~2^31 times under the qdisc lock (a soft lockup / denial of service). Add max(256U, ...) matching fq_codel_change(). Conditions to recreate the bug: CONFIG_NET_SCH_FQ_PIE=y. Requires CAP_NET_ADMIN (namespace-local via unshare -Urn suffices). tc qdisc add dev dummy0 root fq_pie tc qdisc change dev dummy0 root fq_pie quantum 1 stab data 32768 size_log 15 cell_log 0

The advisory is shared at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-98013 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. Additional levels of successful authentication are necessary for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1499 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 6.12.111, 6.18.53, 7.2.7 or 7.3-rc3 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch f90fe65b977e7aa9eb302230a09eb18f8c32ceaa/c11e3a39807eb5a200445ae9082843ab86800415/6655b56e2801008566c594ef231f6c7b3f716c61/4864f58c53eb47257d55e01f47d4a9f355f7f970 is able to eliminate this problem. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
