Details
A vulnerability has been found in GitoxideLabs gitoxide up to 0.22.x and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the component Worktree Checkout. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
gitoxide gix-fs before 0.23.0 contains a path validation bypass vulnerability in the worktree checkout mechanism that allows attackers to escape the worktree directory via symlink manipulation. During forced checkout with overwrite_existing enabled, attackers can craft malicious repository trees where symlink entries replace validated directories, causing subsequent files to be written outside the worktree through the symlink for code execution or file manipulation.
The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2026-100419 since 09/25/2026. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 0.23.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
